Grade 10 student, Krish, was recently awarded the IAYP Bronze medal for his outstanding ideas, activities and work. The IAYP programme, run by the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Association, a global framework for non-formal education. Krish is now aiming to go a step further and earn an IAYP Silver medal. To do this he is furthering his initiative with Digi-Ed, where him and his team are hosting a week-long free course in AI and Machine Learning over Dasara break. We got in touch with Krish to find out more.

I am excited to be getting this award! It is an honor and it feels like 6 months of work is finally paying off – Krish, Grade 10

Since beginning to organise and keep track of his passions and activities, Krish has progressed in his venture. He has been active playing football and been taking lessons and playing the piano for the activity and creativity, and provided education for government school students with 33 of his friends, through Digi-Ed. “I joined the IAYP program so that I could keep track of my contributions. It helped me stay regular and make sure I put in effort every week to better myself”, says Krish, who is planning to continue his learning experience and go for the Silver award.

Part of this is his work with Digi-Ed, a student-led organisation that he founded and launched by Krish in 2020, will be offering a programme in AI and Machine Learning during this Dasara break, titled ‘An Eye for AI’. The programme, which is open for Grade 6 to 12 students and are free, will take place between 11 – 15 October at 6:30pm to 10pm (IST). “Here is a unique opportunity for students to attend an event about AI and Machine Learning for free”, says Krish, and explains that

“The first three days of this educational course will cover the fundamentals of AI and Machine Learning, with knowledgeable peers at a 12:1 student to teacher ratio, so you can learn hands-on all you need to know”, explains Krish, and adds that the programme will include exciting guest speakers from the university and industry world, who have done many projects within the fields of, for example, data science and sports. “Some of our revered speakers include IIT and Harvard graduates, a vice-president and global CTO of the company Dell and a board member of SNIA.”

Krish is looking forward to continuing his IAYP journey – hopefully, this time in physical form. “The award was definitely different online. For example, I had to do this adventurous journey from home. It was a unique experience.” To find out more about IAYP and how you may join the journey, visit the IAYP page on our website, where you can also see an example of the IAYP Spiti Valley trip.
