Selected as one of the national finalists in the Junior category of Geo Genius Geography Olympiad, held 26 March this year, Ribhav from Grade 8 secured the 6th place and received a cash prize of 1100 INR among all other students who competed. While taking part and winning, Ribhav has shown gratitude to all his teachers and Dr Caroline for their continuous support and encouragement. We reached out to Ribhav to find out more about the competition, as well as how this might contribute and inspire him for the future.

It is a great way of being productive – Ribhav, Grade 8

Ribhav decided to join the Geo Genuis Geography Olympiad because of his passion related to the Geography subject, mainly because it taught him about the planet in which we live and in works as a society. “I found this very interesting”, says Ribhav, who also joined because he thought that these competitive tests could be a productive way to spend his time at home during the Spring Break.

The competition consisted of three rounds. The first two rounds were conducted in an online proctored platform whereas in the final round the hosting committee had organised a live virtual meeting. In the first round all competitors were asked to answer 50 questions, in the format of MCQs and in 30 minutes. “In my opinion, the first round was fairly easy, if compared to the other two. The second round was challenging but fun at the same time”, says Ribhav, who had 25 minutes to answer 50 MCQ questions. “The third round was hard, I must say, wherein we were asked a maximum of 10 solid questions, for each question we had 15 seconds to answer. It was very much similar to a rapid-fire contest nevertheless it was really fun and engaging.“

Winning this prize has made Ribhav feel special and he got to know how much he can possibly do. “For me, I feel happy but at the same time I feel like working harder to accomplish even more than this”, says Ribhav about his experience, and gives a suggestion for other students: “I would like to tell everybody who is reading this, that these competitive tests or Olympiads really help you study-wise and you also enlarge your knowledge on that particular subject. It is a great way of being productive especially when you are bored, so lastly I highly recommend these competitions.”
