Recently the first issue of the school History Magazine- Historacle was created and presented to interested readers. The workers consist of a group of students from Grade 11, who wishes to give ideas through a lens of history, and hope ask the right questions and inspire other students’ lives – even outside of the classroom. From exploring on-going political and global issues to solving crosswords, their magazine covers broad topics from all around the world. We reached out to Devana to learn more about their process and why they encourage others to read the magazine to the last page.

All of our efforts amalgamate to a well-crafted and phenomenal magazine – Devna, Grade 11, Editor-in-Chief

With mentorship and guidance by Mr Vijaykumar, the team behind the ‘Historacle' are members of the weekly after school History Club. During their club they select a topic of interest and have a brief discussion that sets columnists Devna, Vaishnavi, Mahika, Rohan, Shinjon and Avi to work individually on articles. After the pieces have been edited by Meeli, the graphic designers and illustrators Urshita, Manya, Srijanee and Sushmit add artistic elements and cartoons for even more enjoyed reading.

Not having a set or specific theme, columnists chose topics that encourage their passion and work. The first Historacle issue offers a broad number of themes, from the Salem Witch Trials and feminism, Influenza in the early twentieth century, the rise of an infamous Iraqi president, all the way to the Russo-Ukrainian war and its origins. “Over the course of multiple issues, our readers will be subjected to a plethora of ideas”, says Devna, whose interest in History lead her to seek more. “I wanted to provide others with a similar opportunity, to facilitate them to look at the world- in all its prominence and subtleties- via a lens of the past.”

The team feels very fulfilled and satisfied, as their first edition is everything they hoped for – perhaps even greater. “This has been an ambition of mine for a while; to actualise my passion for history. We aim to release new issues on a quarterly basis”, says Devna, who along with her team aim at and plan to publishing three more issues for the remainder of 2022.
