On March 10, results from the American Mathematics Competition (AMC 8) were revealed and shared with a large and passionate community, with approximately 50,000 participating test takers. Atharv from Grade 7 was one of the engaged and committed partakers who won being part of the worldwide 1%. We reached out to Atharv to learn more about the competition and his aim for the future.

I think anyone with interest in analytical thinking, math, and logic should definitely participate – Atharv, Grade 7

Being passionate about Maths and enjoying solving analytical problems, Atharv decided to participate in the AMC 8. “I prepared a lot for the competition by doing most of the past AMC 8 competitions as practice”, explains Atharv, which allowed him to find interesting and fun Maths. “My results in the competition were very good, 22 out of 25, with the world average score being 10.”

As a result of the commitment and passion, Atharv was awarded the Mathematical Association of America’s honor roll distinction certificate. “It feels good to be in the top 1 percent among the 50,000 test-takers. The main prize of the competition was the knowledge that I gained from preparing for the test itself”, says Atharv, who was on 6th place from India and topped TISB.

But although the success took place, the training and commitment continues for AMC 10 and 12, and AIME competitions that are still coming up. “I think anyone with interest in analytical thinking, math, and logic should definitely participate.”
