Although originating from Kerala, Ms Cathy, PY and Middle-School French teacher, has spent most of her life in Karnataka. She completed her Master’s Degree in Communication at the Manipal University and went on and worked with content writing and digital marketing in the corporate sector for seven years. Having a passion for language and learning, Ms Cathy decided to shift to teaching. We reached out to Ms Cathy to find out more about her story and why she believes French is a central part of education and life.

I really do believe learning French is fun! – Ms Cathy, French Teacher

Being her first job in teaching, Ms Cathy has worked at TISB since 2020. She truly feels that the organisation is a place to grow and develop as a person – both for students and teachers. “I feel as much like a student as a teacher at times because there have been such numerous opportunities for learning”, says Ms Cathy, who likes the fact that the school has exposed her to students and teachers of immensely varied backgrounds. The rapport that Ms Cathy has been able to establish with her students and colleagues, despite the Covid pandemic and online learning, is something that she feels very proud of and looks forward to continuing in physical school.

Being a passionate French teacher, Ms Cathy feels that it is a language of great potential. “This is a language that teaches you that rules were made to be broken, and that learning can never be a monotonous experience.” She believes that French is especially popular, as it has a reputation of being the language of culture and love. “Having tried my hand at a few other European languages, I think my grounding in French made the learning of others a lot easier”, says Ms Cathy, who especially appreciates languages because of the exciting journey along the way.
