Devarya from Grade 12 recently published a book titled ‘Home’, full of poetry capturing thoughts and feelings about nature. Our homes in this world are connected to nature, and there is no substitute for life on this planet. The book offers a range of perspectives: flora and fauna, and the justice of the living earth. We reached out to Devarya to find out more about the book, why he wrote it and shared it with the world.

Home essentially captures my thoughts towards preserving nature – Devarya, Grade 12

Having been an environmentalist for several years, Devarya felt right about giving nature justice by representing it through his artistic sense and announcing his feelings, while encouraging others to protect nature. The poems follow a similar pattern. “All link to nature; be it through poems representing the viewpoints of animals and botanicals, or elaborating upon a creature”, says Devarya, whose poems also focus on the power nature holds, and how people must respect it for it to respect us and allow us to live.

Similar to his previous publications, the book is not aimed at a specific audience. “Any age group can be made aware of nature and can strive to protect it”, says Devarya, who invites everyone to learn more about nature – especially in a non-scientific way, which allows for a simpler understanding towards protecting it. “While this collection is a concert of my poetry, it also is an alarm towards awareness. Thus, one must keep this in mind while approaching the future”, says Devarya and recommends people to allocate a third of the month towards nurturing nature and the environment.

In order to engage a wider audience, Devarya is looking to market his book extensively. “Poetry for me is partially unplanned, in terms of my approach with it”, says Devarya, whose writing comes naturally and unregulated. “As for publications, any inspiration which strikes can trigger it.” Devarya is looking at studying Liberal Arts (Literature, German, Film and Philosophy) after graduating from TISB.
