Column – Colours for a Cause
As you may have heard, we have begun a new initiative to have some more fun and unity online: ‘Colours for a Cause’! Every few weeks, you will receive updates about a specific day when you have to wear a particular colour in honour of a unique cause. We encourage you to take screenshots of your class unitedly wearing that colour and upload it to this Padlet.
The next cause we’re honouring is Safer Internet Day, on February 8th, Tuesday. For this, we encourage everyone to wear a shade of black, joining together to make the internet a safer and better place for all!
Fun fact: it is observed on the second day of the second week of the second month every year. This year, it will fall on 8 February. The day calls everyone to join together to make the internet a safer and better place for all, mainly for children and young people. Now that we spend so much time online, it is even more imperative that we know how to stay safe on the internet and make the necessary changes in our lives.
HOW TO STAY SAFE ON THE INTERNET
Use Varied Passwords
Keep your passwords private and make sure to vary them across platforms. Don't just use letters, use special characters, numbers and more! And finally, make sure they're long.
Keep Your Info Private
Never reveal sensitive information about yourself such as name, age, date of birth, address, etc. to anyone on the internet - and this includes accidentally posting this information on social media. Even if you know the person you are talking to, you never know who has access to chats!
Verifying Links
Links an lead to a host of actions, so it is of utmost importance that you don't just click on any and all links. Avoid links with bit.ly in them. Hover over a link to verify whether it leads where you want. Check whether the site is spelled correctly, for example if a link says yootube.com instead of youtube.com, do not click on it. Ensure the URL of websites you use begins with "https" and not "http".
We are so excited to see our entire school participating in something that involves us all, and that is so important in our daily lives. While some days we may not feel like turning on our camera, we hope that on these special days we all take time to contribute to something that can help us stay connected, united and motivated during these uncertain times.
If you have any questions about this challenge, feel free to reach out to Shrishti and Rohan in Grade 12.
