General Assembly - DISEC
Dear Delegates,
Welcome to TISBMUN 2012 and to the General Assembly first committee - DISEC! My name is Amlandeep Bhadra and I will be one of your chairs for the General Assembly. I have been participating in MUN competitions since I was thirteen years old and TISBMUN 2012 provides an opportunity to me to share this experience with all of you. I consider Bangalore my hometown as I have lived here for fourteen years. I love Mexican food especially quesadilla. I enjoy soccer and I support the Brazillian national football team. I will be joined on the dias by Rhea Karia and together we hope to make DISEC one of the best committees that you have ever been a part of. The General Assembly is often judged as the easiest council in a MUN conference, however the two challenging topics that we have decided upon will make ensure that you have a challenging conference but at the same time you have fun. Good Luck to all the delegates
Cheers!
Amlandeep Bhadra

Topic A: Cyber Warfare
Today's world relies heavily on the internet for everything from communication to trade. While the internet has evolved to accommodate everybody's needs it has also formed the new frontier for warfare. The U.N. Charter states that no nation can use force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any other nation. However, there is no consensus on the classification of cyber warfare.
Both state and non-state actors can use cyber pathways to create chaos and obstruct the peaceful existence of society. So far the full extent of cyber aggression has only been seen in movies, but this is a very real threat that must be addressed..
The purpose of this topic is to discuss a new dimension of international warfare. While conventional and non- conventional weapons may be physically more destructive, cyber warfare has the ability to cripple a nation from within. The United Nations must adapt to current times and recognize all modern day threats, whether physical or virtual .
Topic B: Conventional Weapons Disarmament
In the race for nuclear weapons, many leaders of the world seem to have forgotten one of the most important forms of weaponry, Conventional Weapons. What are conventional weapons? Conventional weapons are any arms that have been used "conventionally" for an extended period of time. Simply put, conventional weapons include all weapons with the exception of nuclear and biological weapons. We all know that tanks, landmines and cluster munitions are more than capable of causing massive damage to human society as seen in the Second World War. But the disarmament of these weapons in today's date is an issue that is yet to be fully addressed at the international level.
While it is not yet possible to hide a nuclear reactor in your backyard, the same cannot be said for small arms such as guns. The legal trade and private ownership of small arms must be bound by more stringent laws to help ensure a better future for the world.
